Spelling homework due June 2

Posted by Ms. Corrigan on May 28th, 2008

This week, students get to design their own spelling lists!! Please make sure your list:

  • Contains 15 words or more
  • Words may be ones that have been challenging for you to learn (for example, words with tricky suffixes like -sion/tion or -able/ible
  • They may be new or interesting words you’d like to learn.
  • They may be contractions or homonyms (like you’re, your, yours…)

Students need to bring their lists to class on Thursday for me to preview. Then, they will decide on an appropriate practice activity to complete, which will be due on Monday.

STUDY GUIDES

Posted by Ms. Corrigan on May 16th, 2008

Today, students were given Pt. I of their “Pronoun Quiz” study guide. They practiced using the correct forms of: you, your, yours, you’re, there, their, theirs, there’s, it, its, it’s, who, whose, and who’s. While these practice sheets are not going to be turned in as homework, I encourage the students to use them as review and practice.

On Monday, they will bring home more practice sheets as “Pt. II” of their study guide.

Our quiz will be on Thursday, May 22nd.

Spelling HW due next Monday, May 19th

Posted by Ms. Corrigan on May 13th, 2008

Spelling List and Assignment for week of May 13, 2008

When deciding on the correct spelling of words that end in “le” or “al,” consider the part of speech. Often times, a noun will end in “le” and an adjective or adverb will end in “al.” There are exceptions, but in general, this is a good rule of thumb.

miracle (n)        illegal (adj.)        official (adj.)               little (adj.)

circle (n)        signal (n)               table (n)                      particle (n)

tropical (adj)    vehicle (n)

Assignment:

• Write each spelling word.
• Look up each spelling word in the dictionary.
• Next to each word, copy the part of speech given in parenthesis on your list.
• Write the meaning for the word as it is used for that particular part of speech.
• List 5-10 additional words that follow this pattern for “le” or “al” endings.

LA This WEEK 4/18-25

Posted by Ms. Corrigan on April 17th, 2008

Language Arts: Students continue to work on their comic books. We complete much of the drafting in class. Students will be breaking down the plot elements panel by panel, indicating the characters, captions, actions and pictures needed for each panel. These rough drafts will help facilitate a more efficient use of the laptops when we transfer the stories on to Comic Life.

Homework over the next week: I am asking that students create or collect all the artwork needed to illustrate their comic books. They can draw original pictures, take digital pictures, use clip art, art from the internet or a combination of any of those options. Students need to save this artwork on to a CD that can be brought to school. We’ll then drag and drop the pictures into the comic book templates. If students need to scan original illustrations, I’d like them to bring them to school by Tuesday 4/22. Some students may be able to scan original art at home. I appreciate any assistance you give your child at home in making sure this artwork is saved properly and brought to school. Students have until next Friday, April 25th to have all the artwork completed.

Due to ITBS TESTING: There will be no spelling assignment or test.
