To the Family of: _____________________ Week of: March 3-7, 2008
Thank you for your participation in our
Parade of Presidents! The children
really enjoy this event.
Will March come in like a lion or a lamb?
The first graders will let you know as they
will be keeping their very own weather graph
all month long. New science vocabulary includes
temperature, season, thermometer, water vapor,
and migrate. Have you noticed the recent return
of the robins? Signs of spring are in the air.
Curriculum news: New spelling words are where, afternoon, story, water, better, and our challenge word is Washington. Our dictation sentence is The boys can hit the ball.
We have completed our first creative writing story, a month’s worth of work! The process included brainstorming the topic, arranging our thoughts with a graphic organizer, writing a sloppy copy, a visit to the editor, revisions, publishing, about the author, and finally…sharing the finished product! We are beginning to brainstorm for our next piece called, “My Family Tradition”. Your child’s dental health unit is coming home today for sharing. Please note when reading a piece of material, I am guiding the students to determine which information is of most importance, called saliency determination, our latest AKOM term. The children just love to use their “highlighter”, yellow marker, and decide which info/vocabulary/definition may be needed to complete an assignment or stored into their active working memory for later use.
Soup Kitchen is due Thursday, fresh produce is always needed, thanks so much for what you are able to contribute each month.
The March Scholastic Order is attached, due Friday, checks payable to Scholastic.
I do need all field trip info by Friday.
Thank you very much for all you do as the parents of these very special children!
Always, Diane Blanco
